A flight instructor FI(A) can be any pilot with a Private Pilot License (PPL), a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) or an airline pilot (ATPL holder) with the required flying experience and theoretical knowledge for the different types of pilot training, i.e. from a private pilot training instructor, to an instrument flight instructor to a commercial pilot instructor.

Career

With a flight instructor qualification, you can start your aviation career as soon as you obtain your private pilot license PPL (A). As a flight instructor, you will be able to obtain the necessary flight experience required for going on to study to become a professional pilot and, at the same time, earn some money during your studies.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • Class 1 or Class 2 medical certificate more about Medical certificate here
  • A CPL (A) or PPL (A) license supplemented by the relevant theory required for CPL holders and a minimum flight of 200 hours, of which at least 150 hours were as pilot in command and 10 hours instrument flying
  • Entry flight test
  • ICAO Aviation English Level 4 examination certificate

Flight training:

Total hours of flight training: 30 hours

  • of which with an instructor: 25 hours*
  • of which joint flights: 5 hours*

Theoretical knowledge lessons:

Total hours of theoretical instruction: 125 hours

  • of which teaching and learning/educational guidelines: 25 hours
  • of which technical theoretical knowledge: 100 hours
